I went to Chandler, OK, on Saturday for Thanksgiving with my family on my mom’s side, though my dad was there because he’s always welcome. After lunch we were sitting around jabbering when my mom’s sister, Linda, busted out a blue bag filled with treasures that are right up my alley. Scrapbooks. Not just any scrapbooks, but the scrapbooks from my grandma Avis, who died before I was born. I know nearly nothing about Avis as my own mother died when I was 14. There were two, one of which was a high school scrapbook….like a senior book. Most of the stuff from the first book was all dated 1928-29.
Homegirl was all kinds of sentimental. I feel like I know a little bit more about myself after browsing these books of this stranger from my family. My mother’s mother. What a treasure.
Oh my goodness- precious treasures. Methinks you came by your awesomeness naturally.
I was thinking something similar. <3
I love it! We should have a party and recreate the menus from Avis’ scrapbook! On the group photo, which is she?
The group photo is the only “new” photo, from the 50s. Her daughter, Peggy, is one of the girls in the pic. It was just too good not to include.
Sheri, I can still hear Avis and my mother visiting in the Kitchen, they would sit for hours and hash over this and that. I would always love just to sit in the room with them to hear their very interesting conversations.
Avis and most of my cousins were at our house several nights a week. We only lived a mile apart.. Avis was a small woman but a strong minded lady. I told Dennis Saturday that I could still see this little short woman giving him swats all the way down the hill for passing his drive way up when him and I were walking home from school one day This was a site I still remember with Dennis being so tall.. She sort of reminded me of Peggy, she spoke her mind, and I always loved to hear what she had to say. She had a great laugh, and she was one of my favorite aunts.
