• 20 difficult truths about love and relationships from a life coach. This is some of the most solid, succinct wisdom I’ve read in a while. One of my favorites was, “19. A period of time spent alone will be the best gift you can give to yourself. If you resist medicating yourself with alco-, worko-, or Bravo Channel-holism, you will learn to trust yourself deeper, hear the voice of your inner guide clearer, and in the absence of another person telling you how beautiful/smart/clever you are, will learn to generate this for yourself. Your future self and your future healthy relationship will thank you.”

• HOLY LORD, MATT NATHANSON FAVORITED MY TWEET. True story. I was there. It totally happened. Later that evening one of my girlfriends texted me and said, “If you start dating Matt Nathanson I’m going to be so jealous.” I replied, “Yeah, so will his wife.” But one can dream…

• Kill My Sorrow by Joy Kills Sorrow If you really dig Punch Brothers, I think you’ll at least like these folks. 
• Was it You by Joy Kills Sorrow Her voice and that harmony at 1:35. I need to lie down now.
• Ok…one more. JKS’s great cover of Such Great Heights. 
• The Way We Move by Langhorn Slim I just started listening to him and instead of picking one or three songs, I went through all of his albums on Spotify. But this album is a good starting point. The title track, Coffee Cups and Two Crooked Hearts seem to be favorites thus far.

• Paste Magazine’s best photos of 2013. If I woke up tomorrow and knew how to shoot a pic like that Wayne Coyne or Jim James one, I wouldn’t be sad.
• This is how I’ll lose you. “You’ll point to reasons for your fear, like my emotions, even though I handle them well, or my insecurity, even though it requires little of you, or my sexual appetite, even though I’m happy with how things are between us. You’ll tell yourself you’re justified, and you’ll begin to shut me out. I’ll feel it in an instant.” Another thoughtful piece from Thought Catalog. This site popped onto my radar this year and I’m glad for it.
• Cinnamon Rolls 101 from The Pioneer Woman. I made these for Christmas morning breakfast. FROM SCRATCH. I cut the recipe in half then saved 1/3 of the dough for hot rolls. And I *still* had a full pan of them to put in the freezer for later in the week. And leftovers for the fridge. So. Damn. Good.

• The best of Karen Walker. Another Thought Catalog piece. “You’ll do it like every self-respecting woman does. Get on your back, point your heels to Jesus and think of hand bags.”

• John Fullbright – Me Wanting You Still obsessed with this guy. That last show at the Blue Door really got him into my DNA. All the songs I want to hear are either in a holding pattern for the next album or so old they are only on YouTube. I hope I’m wrong about the latter.
• John Fullbright – Paranoid Heart “Maybe wreckless hearts come in pairs. Maybe that’s the only shake we’ll ever get to call fair.” Jesus, John Fullbright. You give me all the feelings to feel. I hope you keep that art coming for the next 40 years or so.

• 37 things you’ll regret when you’re old There are several things on this list that I chronically struggle with or am currently, acutely struggling with. Well timed, this list is. 

Nifty

• Guy replaces realtor photos with his photo on bus benches. So creepy and creative and wonderful.
• Badass backyard igloo. 
• Captain Picard’s sings “Let it snow!”
• Jennifer Lawrence and Jack Nicholson at the Oscars. I can’t believe I’m just now seeing this glorious moment.
• House of Cards Season 2 Trailer. Oh, the glory. I hope I don’t sit and watch them all in one weekend.

Music

• When You’re Here by John Fullbright. Of course. “Some are silent ’til the chances are all gone.”
• Murder of One by Counting Crows. I found this CD in a box recently and have kept it in playing constantly in my car. This band just doesn’t get old for, even after ::gulp:: 20+ years. “I am feathered by the moonlight.”
